Rob Edwards and Gary O'Neil are two of the initial candidates under consideration to succeed the former manager as head coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The previous coach was dismissed on the weekend following the team's 10-match without a victory start to the top-flight season.

And Edwards and O'Neil - each of whom have historic links to the team - are part of the names to be evaluated by the Wolves ownership.

The manager is presently at Middlesbrough, which would create a possible hurdle to his hiring at Wolves' stadium.

Nevertheless the ex- Luton head coach - who made more than 100 of games for the club during his time as a player - is considered a leading candidate for the vacancy.

The 42-year-old is reportedly enjoys support from the club directors as they begin the process of appointing a fresh manager.

O'Neil is also appearing as a unexpected candidate, even though he would be a shock choice given he was sacked by Wolves in December last year.

The former West Ham United player is out of work meaning the club would not be required to pay any buyout fee.
